Last Saturday evening on my was to the salon I passed by this street festival and took these photos? Does anyone know anything aboout the meaning behind celebrations?
Oh, wow, gorgeous. I love this kind’o stuff.
These are religious celebrations, usually in honor for one of the many god’s ‘birthday’.
These parades are organized by local temples, and despite the enormous way that they block traffic, they appear to be tolerated by locals.
They usually involve people carrying statues of the god(s), and people of blue trucks banging drums and shooting of fire crackers.
I have noticed that there are usually large numbers of youths involved with these parades, and they often appear to be of a somewhat seedy nature. Some of my local friends have confirmed that these are indeed usually unemployed youths or school drop-outs, some with gang affiliations.
I love temple parades like these. There doesn’t seem to be any way of finding out when they’re going to take place. You just have to get lucky.
