Fine Art Exhibit Proposal for Spring 2009

Self-Portrait, January 30th 2008

For several years now an idea has been tossing and turning in my mind. I’ve wanted in interview and photograph key women in my life about their ideas of strength, beauty, survival, love, loss, and self-expression. This year I’d like to finally realize this vision and interview women like Amy Rees on her wedding day, Rachelle Tyrrell with her young daughter, Sarah Albrecht with her charisma and celebrity, Carrie Marshall on travel and wanderlust, Jindi Mehat on desire and actualization…. I would also like to interview and photograph new firends and strangers who would like to participate in this project. Eventually I would like to produce an exhibit of 15-30 poster-sized black and white prints. From each print I would like the viewer to be struck by the individuality of each subject within the common theme of modern femininity. Most likely I will begin to photograph the project this summer. However, if you are interested in doing a sitting please let me know.

Photography is best when it tells a story. When it celebrates, documents, expresses, and proclaims.

    Hello Joanna,

What about a person who has escaped the religious oppression (sp?) coming from a traditional family?

Does that fit in what your looking for?

I hope you had a great time to relax over your holidays 🙂

    Always your friend,
    Luke

*clink* …was the sound my jaw made when it hit the desk after I came across this exciting idea!

    3 words: I’d be honoured.

Now excuse me as I run off to electroconvulsive therapy.

    hearting, hearting

Great self portrait Jo. So photogenic. To get a picture somewhat facebook worthy I have to take like 40 pics. As the older I am getting not only does my face look fatter, but redder. Damn Irish genetics.

I love the idea of this project. Very hip. You are so creative!!

    Hope all is well.

Just came across this post in Facebook, Jo. I’d think that you won’t have too much trouble finding women who’d love to participate. Everyone has a story to tell, and every time I get to know someone, I’m amazed at what they know and the kinds of experiences they’ve had. I always find people get MORE interesting the more I learn about them.

I think it would be lots of fun to participate — too bad we’re not likely to geographically cross paths anytime soon. (Although I have been toying with the idea of going to Taiwan to visit my family sometime this year…)
