Photos of Carrie for Discover Taipei Magazine

Carrie is back in Taiwan! Happy Days! Here are some photos from earlier today, which are for a story on Taiwan’s fruit for the upcoming July issue of Discover Taipei magazine. Carrie just returned from a three month trip around the world where she visited Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Canada, and America. Wow! Today we had a good time catching up and Carrie shared some of her recent photography with me. She is very talented and took some amazing photographs of the Plain of Jars and throughout South East Asia. Moreover, Carrie has a very unique perspective on the world and is a very positive influence in my life.

Super busy-time

Yes, it’s that time again!
The super busy time!
I’ve got no time to blog, paint my nails, or unpack my apartment.  3/4 of my meals come from cafes on the run and my exercise routine consists of getting from a to b.
My Chinese class is very taxing and demands a lot of focus.  Moreover, my teaching schedule is jammed; however things will slow down in two weeks and I’ll have a mini vacation in August.
Can’t wait to catch up until then….

Yet procrastinating……

As usual, I’m feeling a bit burnt out.  Tomorrow we are moving and I don’t want to face it….  The boxes, the packing, the exhaustive energy of a move…..  As usual Range and I have avoided everything until the last minute.  I also have my end of term marking to do and I-don’t-feel-like-doing-it.  Can I not have nap and watch a movie instead?  Today I was late for work due to the slow Sulin to Taipei trains, which in my case were 40 minutes late!  Bummer…..  To compensate I had sushi and chocolate almonds for dinner.  Life felt much better.  I’ve also become addicted to bubble tea which is now part of my daily routine.

Working hard on my Chinese

Lately I’ve been working very hard on my Chinese.  Last week I changed to a slower class at the Mandarin Training center and I have started writing out the characters to learn the language.  It is a goal that I am working towards for up to four hours per day.  Sometimes it feels like a grind but I keep thinking that if I keep it up two years from now I might be able to really communicate and understand Mandarin.  To me that would be a wonderful gift….

This was a special race as it took place in my hometown of Vancouver, BC. I had wanted to run a Vancouver race for a while and it was an absolute pleasure to run through UBC, West Van, and Stanley Park for 13.10 miles. The course began at UBC’s Thunderbird Arena and ran along SW […]

  • Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon: Race Review 3:58:18 August 14, 2014
It was a great experience to run my first marathon at home in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois on April 26th. I decided to run with the 3:50 pace group and met a lot of interesting people on the course. Our pacer Steve had run 13 marathons in one year and I connected with others who traveled across […]
