Why be negative or mean to your co-workers?

Why do some people see the need to put others down?  To offer an offhand cutting remark?  Look the other way?  Act superior?

It’s not something I feel that I have to prove.  And whenever I see it in others it immediately lowers my opinion of them.

What most people don’t realize is that when you are being mean or cutting you are actually looking really unattractive doing it.  You look bad physically, emotionally, and intellectually.  Why bother?

Why care?  What are you trying to prove by acting negative?  That you are petty and unkind?

Recently Range has gotten some negative comments over his truthful post on an administrator who was a complete bitch to us.  Personally I am not going to bother to mention my previous employer on this blog.It was a negative situation so I left.  Actions speak louder than words.  Now I am working at a University and for a better paying foreign owned language school.  Moving on is often the best revenge.

    Hello,

It is good to see that there are some people who see this kind of behavior not acceptable and take the self preserving road. We only live ‘X’ amount of time…why bother with all the shit that is flung around the room. Enjoy your times, keep positive and when things are not to your liking…change them…only you can do that, and normally it does not happen by themselves. Cause and effect type deal. I wonder how this works in a culture that is very tic or tat. Why would people take the time to put themselves down when the only thing they are doing is doing exactly what Joanna stated…destroying themselves. Is it that self satisfying when you belittle someone….when in fact you are belittling yourself at the same time? I found it is usually rage that forces out these bold statements which are not helpful at all….oh well…one day maybe we will be surronded by people that treat everyone as friends.

This behavior is something I have never understood myself and when I am no longer enjoying my environment (workplace or social gatherings), I leave. It’s that simple.

You’ve said all there is to say but I couldn’t help put my two cents in 🙂
