Taiwan is a Bad Fashion Influence

Being a perfectionist can have its advantages and anyone who knows me understands how particular I can be about my clothes. Everything must match and be simple with a modern asymmetrical design. No prints, beads, or too much metallic.

However, my geographical change has caused me to adapt new shopping habits. Yes, goods are dirt cheap in Taiwan. But really sister take a look at what you are buying. Is it really a good idea to have those sequins on that handbag? Are there even any T-shirts available without over the top prints or garish accents?Don’t get me wrong there are a ton of good shopping venues in Taiwan. However, the better stores and products are harder to find. You have to know what your doing and be discriminating.

Nonetheless, I must admit my taste is being altered by the local culture. Today I am wearing a pair of silver metallic sandals. Oh dear! Even a few weeks ago I would have thought twice about such a purchase but now I’m just going with the flow. Wish me luck in picking up a new jacket and some warm sweaters. It’s getting colder and all my warm clothing is sitting in boxes at home.

A lot of young women in Taiwan walk around wearing shorts that are really poofy and look like a diaper… I don’t know what these are called or if they can be seen anywhere outside of Taiwan.

man, you aint kidding. You should see the stuff that girls wear here. The one I find especially odd is the redneck trucker hats like in your photo. They’re everywhere these days. Girls with otherwise normal looking (not that I’d know) wear these things and think it’s cool. Ick.

Everyone has different tastes in fashion. You know it’s quite normal to look like that in Taiwan or anywhere in Asia…Americans go to some foreign country..well in this case taiwan.. and might think their fashion looks ugly or weird..but Chinese/Asians might come to America and think that we dress bad. You’re just not use to seeing those types of stuff….I see nothing wrong with what that girl is wearing.

Actually now that I have lived in Taipei for more than two years I have adapted to the clothing out here and love Taiwan fashion. It is just a different style than in the US or Canada. Beauty is a indication of culture and sometimes cultures can clash; however, they can also overlap and reflect new ways of thinking.

just because US dresses super revealing & unappropriate, doesnt mean taiwan’s fashion is a ‘bad innfluence’
your statement is totally biased and it might not be fahsionable to YOU
but doesnt mean thats not the style nowadays.
maybe YOU’RE a bad fashion influence.

    Dear Noob,

This comment was written 4.5 years ago and is referencing the visual style of fashion not sexuality. At this point in my life I would not write this blog post and are sorry if you are offended. However, Noob you are wrong to assume that all Westerners wear revealing promiscuous clothing.
