Here are some photographs of Le Château off Burrard and Robson in Vancouver. Years ago between the ages of 21 and 25 Le Château was one of my favorite stores. Enthusiastically I would try to shop there every week for something shiny, tiny, and sexy to go dancing in or something fun to wear to class. At the time I was finishing my Art History B.A. at Carleton or Fine Art degree at Ottawa U.
This is an old photo of a Le Château mannequin from 1999. Years ago I exhibited this print and ended up selling it to an old landlord.
Every year for Christmas my mother puts something under the tree form the store as she remembers it as being “my favorite store”.
However, this summer while walking by the store with a friend we both noticed the highly styled windows but did not say anything or acknowledge the fashion. Unspokenly we did not want to admit a fondness for Le Château which has earned the nickname Le Crapo for its cheap material and poor quality. Still to this day I maintain a soft spot for the store and kind of regret not shopping there this summer.
