Today I presented a lecture on the cover art of The New Yorker magazine based on the USA Today article (2005) That Should “Cover” It by Francoise Mouly. As I prepared the power point presentation I became delighted and intrigued by the covers and spent a considerable amount of time unearthing some of The New Yorker’s hidden gems. Noted cover artists Saul Steinberg describes the covers as “pictures that change the way a person sees the world, making visible concepts so fundamental that the viewer cannot remember how he or she thought before seeing them.” Enjoy….

Thanks for sharing. So many explosive covers! My favourite is the second cover with the soft colours and the bicycle. Just at this moment, I was feeling quite stressed out… so much work to do, my apartment is in an epic mess, and then looking at that image calmed me. Put things into perspective and reminded me of the simple pleasures i love so much and also the beauty of these pleasures. So much media I see on a daily basis assaults me with images of conflict, politics, war… that it is nice to just look at something beautiful…
