Quite often I would have a nightmare about this particular situation. You go to work or a social gathering and discover that your private parts are exposed. However, that embarrassment is now a new reason to be featured in the news. Over the past month influential teen stars like Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, and Lindsey Lohan have all gone out without panties and given the media crotch shots. To me this is a bit much and I can’t help be feel sorry for someone who thinks that giving an indecent crotch flash will generate a positive response.
Note: I am not going to post the crotch shots that are circulating around the internet. The photos included are enough bad taste for one day.
Moreover, I can’t help but remember my female students who would be influenced by this behavior and show off their wale tails and cleavage at every opportunity. The lack of positive female role models in the media is sad. However, their prevalence also points to a deeper question; what do women think makes them valued? Is it an education, emotional stability, self confidence or self respect? Or is it something creeper and sleazier that they feel has a broader social appeal?
